Plant list for both rock gardens:

  • Chinese fringetree

  • Muhly grass

  • “Color Guard” Yucca

  • Daylilies – ‘Happy Returns’ and other varieties

  • Lantana 'New Gold'

  • Verbena ‘Homestead Purple’

In 2017, Clinton Canopy worked with Dale Satterfield, Director of Public Works, to relandscape the rock garden at the intersection of Highways 56 and 72 on the south side of town near TD Bank.

A Chinese fringetree was chosen for the center since it meets DOT requirements for planting in a median. The remaining foundational plants are Muhly grass, Yucca, and Daylilies.

We supplement each year with plants like Lantana and Verbena from the Clinton High School plant sale.

In 2021, Clinton Canopy developed a plan to create a similar rock garden on the north side of town at the intersection of Highways 56 and 72 near Clinton Tire.

The space was overgrown with shrubs and Canna lilies which were too tall for safe traffic visibility. Volunteers from Clinton Canopy dug out the old plants.

A grant from The Bailey Foundation paid for the construction of the raised bed by Davidson Brothers. Additional funding for new plants came from a Community Assistance Grant for the city.
